The Robinsons are back at the Church House |
 | |
Julie Robinson is a rarity among pub landladies.
She is among the few to have held two separate licences ... for the same pub.
The Robinson family is now back at the Church House Inn, Bollington - eight years after leaving for Spain.
They had been at the ‘Church’ for 11 years and the inn went on to hit press headlines when it was then taken over by a group of local residents.
“It’s a great, award-winning community pub with a lovely ‘olde worlde’ feel, open fires and friendly atmosphere,” says Julie.
“When we came back to the UK we re-opened the Rock Tavern at Marple Bridge and had been there for two years when we heard that the Church House Inn was coming up for sale. So we jumped at the chance to buy it back.
“Now we seem to have joined the small number of landlords ever to hold two licences for the same place. But the main thing is... it’s great to be back and especially to be joined by several of the staff we had before.”
The 19th century stone-built hostelry in Church Street has five ensuite bedrooms - which have helped to build its reputation for food, drink, bed and breakfast at the heart of the old mill village on the edge of the Peak District National Park.
The Robinsons are now planning a major refurbishment for the New Year. An overhaul of the restaurant menu has already started – with home-cooked dishes using top quality local produce from a local baker, butcher and surrounding farmers.
“Bollington is awash with pubs – nearly 20 of them in the area – but the Church House Inn has to stand out ... and it does,” says Julie.

Pareto Law, the Wilmslow-based graduate recruitment and sales training specialist, is celebrating two more award nominations – this time in the prestigious British Excellence in Sales & Marketing Awards (BESMA).
The 2008 BESMA nominations are for Pareto Law in the category of Sales Team of the Year (over 50 employees), and for Sarah Skelton in the category of Sales Manager of the Year.
The latest nominations come just a few weeks after Pareto achieved a place in the National Sales Awards 2009 finals in the categories of Sales Manager of the Year and Sales Training Programme/Initiative of the Year.
Organised by The Institute of Sales & Marketing Management (ISMM), the annual BESMAs represent the UK’s highest level of recognition for outstanding achievement in the sales and marketing industry. Pareto Law will now make presentations for both categories to the judging panel, prior to the final award announcements in February 2009.
